Employment rates, which are another important issue that interest the industry as much as turnover and production, are disclosed in a report compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT).
TURKSTAT Construction Workforce Input Indices According to the results of the first quarter of 2014, Construction Sector Employment Index decreased 2.3 percent in the first period of this year compared to the same period of the previous year. The calendar-adjusted Construction Employment Index declined by 6.3 percent in the same period last year. Nevertheless, the construction sector continues to maintain its first place in employment after manufacturing and agriculture with 7.1 percent.
According to the important results covering February, March and April, The unemployment rate in Turkey was 9.7 percent and the non-agricultural unemployment rate was 11.6 percent.
According to this, in Turkey, the number of unemployed persons 15 and over is reported to be 2,747 thousand and the unemployment rate to be 9.7 percent. While the unemployment rate is 9.1 percent for males and 11 percent for females, unemployment rates have also been determined according to age groups.
According to Report, youth unemployment rate is 16.7% for 15-24 age group and unemployment rate is 9.9% for 15-64 age group.
In the period of March 2014, the number of persons employed at age 15 and above reached 25 million 583 thousand persons while the employment rate was 45.1 percent in total. In this period, the number of people working in the agricultural sector was 5 million 316 thousand persons, while the number of persons working in non-agricultural sectors was 20 million 268 thousand persons.
Turkey’s general employment rates, which are stated in the same report, states that the manufacturing has the largest share with 21 percent with 21.8 percent, agriculture with 20.8 percent, construction with 7.1 percent and service sector with 51.2 percent.
