In recent years, the dizzying speed of the construction industry and the increasing number of buildings have brought together an important issue.
Since we are living in an eartquake area, it is undoubtedly that waterproofing is the the most important issue to be taken care of during construction.
Institutions that continue their activities in order to raise public awareness about waterproofing in Turkey, to solve sectoral problems and to carry out the necessary activities before the public and decision-makers, stress that waterproofing must be a mandatory application in our country which is faced with earthquake risk.
In the past year, following the circular issued by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the associations aare ccelerating their work to ensure that this practice is a legal requirement for all structures throughout Turkey, following the imposition of waterproofing application in public buildings, also draw attention to the use of materials in accordance with the standards.
Waterproofing materials which are not suitable to the standards may result in the corrosion of the rebars in the bearing system and the loss of half of the carrying capacity due to various reasons such as ground, climate conditions and geological factors within 10 years of construction and threatening the safety of the structure.
Authorities pointed out that the waterproofing sector, which has started to increase in importance in our country and is growing day by day, faces the threat of unfair competition. They emphasize that the waterproofing applications made with materials that are not in accordance with the quality standards can not meet the waterproofing needs of the buildings and cause problems in terms of quality of life.
In order to prevent unfair competition in waterproofing, administrations pointed out that the product should be well supervised. Emphasize that “label declaration values of products must be controlled by independent laboratories and public authority”.
